‘Slave To The Rhythm’ is a documentary that explores the deep influence of musicians from an African heritage worldwide. This series follows the evolution of rhythmical styles that originated from the African slaves following their relocation to other regions of the world.

Three culturally vibrant regions are profiled in this documentary series – Brazil, Cuba and the Caribbean. Rather than highlighting the horrors of slavery, the tone of this documentary is uplifting. It celebrates African musical heritage, focusing on the extraordinary talent, strength and self respect of these proud people.

Rhythms are integral to their spiritual and social balance. Heard in their religious ceremonies and festive celebrations alike, their musical rhythms motivate their inner force.

Millions of Africans endured centuries of oppression in slavery.  By preserving a lot of their African culture in South America and the Caribbean they not only survived but also regained their freedom. ‘Slave to the Rhythm’ reveals how African musical influence has, through the generations, helped create the contemporary musical styles and sounds that the world loves today.

Part 1 Brazil - features Gilberto Gil, Carlos Negreiros, Paulo Moura, Ramiro Musotto & Virginia Rodrigues.

Take this fascinating journey and marvel at the spellbinding Afro-rhythms in this extraordinary series for TV and Blu-ray DVD.
